Who We Serve

Montana Map of RC&D CountiesThe three-county area encompasses a total of 3,980,800 acres, and approximately 15.46% percent of the State’s total population.  Missoula County has the largest population base (ranked second in the state); Ravalli County is the second fastest growing county in the state and Mineral County has only 5% of its land base in private ownership while 95% of lands are federal, state, corporate timber and real estate interests.  The three counties are very diverse in nature and the local projects reflect that diversity.

While the Bitter Root RC&D is designated to serve this three-county area in western Montana, is is common to see the Bitter Root RC&D reach out to assist communities and projects throughout the region, state and nation. In fact, one of the current projects of the RC&D is international in scope. So while diverse in local projects, the far-reaching effect of the Bitter Root RC&D is bound only by opportunity and the ability to perform.
